The ASICS Gel-Cumulus 28 is a neutral daily training shoe designed to provide balanced cushioning and smooth transitions on asphalt. It maintains a relatively high profile (approx. 38.5 mm in the heel and 30.5 mm in the forefoot) with an 8 mm drop and a weight close to 250-260 g in the men's version, combining modern foam and PureGEL technology for a soft yet responsive ride.

It is designed for neutral runners looking for a versatile shoe for daily training, especially for easy to moderate paces. It works well for lightweight to medium-weight runners and for those who prioritize comfort and consistency over speed. Its typical use ranges from short runs to long training runs on asphalt, where it stands out for its softness and fluid transition between landing and toe-off.

The upper uses an engineered jacquard mesh designed to improve ventilation and adapt to the foot without adding too many structural layers. This construction aims for a comfortable and relatively uniform fit, with midfoot support and a standard fit in the heel and forefoot. The tongue and heel reinforcements help stabilize the foot and reduce pressure points during the run.

The midsole combines FF BLAST MAX foam with PureGEL inserts in the heel. The foam offers soft and light cushioning with some energy return, while PureGEL improves shock absorption and softens the landing. The combination aims for a cushioned and fluid feel, with a progressive transition from heel contact to toe-off.

The outsole uses the FLUIDRIDE compound, which mixes EVA and rubber to maintain lightness and promote smooth transitions during the run. In high-wear areas, AHAR LO or LO-HRD rubber is incorporated to increase durability and improve traction on asphalt surfaces, especially in the heel.
