The Brooks Revel 8 is a neutral running shoe that blends versatile style with a comfortable feel, making it suitable for both running and everyday wear. It features significant updates over previous versions, particularly in the midsole and upper, designed to improve cushioning without adding excessive weight.

It's ideal for runners looking for a smooth transition shoe, for moderate training runs, recovery runs, or even to pair with more demanding shoes. It's well-suited for distances from 5-10 km to runs of 20-25 km or more, provided maximum cushioning or serious competition isn't required. It also works quite well for long walks or urban use, thanks to its comfortable design.

The Revel 8's upper is constructed with an updated engineered mesh that provides lightweight structure while improving ventilation. Reinforcements are positioned to support the foot without unnecessary stiffness; the collar and tongue offer a comfortable fit, and recycled materials (a significant percentage by weight) are used in its construction, adding an environmental benefit.

The midsole uses DNA Loft v2 foam, which offers adaptive cushioning with a good balance between softness and responsiveness. It's not intended to be the softest foam in the Brooks lineup, but it does improve comfort compared to previous versions of the Revel. It's designed to absorb impact while maintaining some firmness so the stride doesn't feel loose.

The outsole combines RoadTack rubber in the contact area for improved traction and durability, with added high-resistance rubber (HPR Heel rubber) in some models to reinforce high-wear areas. The outsole pattern is designed for good grip on asphalt or compact surfaces, and is approved for mixed urban/training use. It is not a trail running outsole with deep lugs; its primary function is road and street use.
