Hoka One One Challenger 8

The Hoka Challenger 8 is a hybrid road-to-trail shoe designed to offer cushioning and grip on mixed terrain, from asphalt to dirt paths. It features an approximate 8mm drop, 4mm lugs, and a compression-molded EVA midsole. It's lightweight, comfortable, and versatile, ideal for training and varied routes.

It's recommended for neutral runners looking for a shoe for training on mixed surfaces. It performs well on medium and long distances (up to a marathon) on less technical terrain, although it's not designed for high-speed races or technical mountain running. Ideal for asphalt, gravel roads, or easy trails.

The upper is made from 100% recycled technical mesh (rPET), providing breathability and sustainability. It includes a reinforced toe cap with a 3D film for added protection and durability, a padded collar for ankle comfort, and reflective details for visibility. It offers a more comfortable and secure fit thanks to a new, more anatomical last. Ventilation is excellent, although it doesn't offer as much lateral protection as more technical trail running shoes.

The midsole is made of compression-molded EVA (CMEVA), with an approximate height of 42 mm in the heel and 34 mm in the forefoot, resulting in an 8 mm drop. It is softer than previous versions, providing comfortable and stable cushioning, prioritizing comfort over rebound. Its rocker geometry promotes a smooth transition between phases of the gait cycle. It is a durable and versatile midsole for training on mixed terrain.

The outsole combines Durabrasion Rubber in key areas with exposed foam sections to reduce weight and improve flexibility. The 4mm lugs are multidirectional and have been redesigned to enhance grip on ascents, descents, and gentle turns. It offers good traction on hard-packed trails, gravel, or dirt, but is not designed for deep mud or highly technical terrain. It's a well-balanced outsole that allows for comfortable running on both asphalt and trails.
