What are frequency sensors?
Heart rate monitors , or PODs, are devices used to measure and monitor heart rate and other activity-related parameters, such as distance, pace, or cadence. PODs are typically placed on specific areas of the body, such as the chest, wrist, or ankle, and connect wirelessly to other devices such as sports watches, smartphones, or computers. PODs are very useful for runners, cyclists, and athletes in general, as they provide accurate, real-time data to help optimize training.
On the other hand, heart rate monitors are devices specifically designed to measure heart rate (the number of beats per minute). Heart rate monitors come in different types:
-
Chest strap heart rate monitors : These sensors are placed around the chest and measure heart rate using electrodes. They are highly accurate because they are placed close to the heart, and they connect wirelessly to a watch or a phone app to display real-time data.
-
Wrist or optical heart rate monitors : These devices measure heart rate using optical sensors that detect blood flow in the skin. They are worn on the wrist, like a watch, and are more comfortable, although they are sometimes less accurate than chest strap monitors.
Both devices allow athletes to monitor their exercise intensity, adjust to their training zones, and improve their performance, while helping to prevent injuries by not overexerting themselves.
