It was on the rugged mountain trails that Jean-Luc and Nico had the idea that would become Hoka One One .

The brand's creators wondered how they could go faster on difficult mountain terrain. They concluded that in trail running shoes, form should adapt to function. So, they created a shoe that wasn't well received by running footwear establishments but was very well-received by runners.

Their shoe designs were inspired by surfing, skiing, cycling and running, and each patented element incorporated into the original shoe influences each design.
